Corpus Christi Ladies Club
When our parish was very young, the men and ladies of the parish would combine forces and do all kinds of functions, i.e., dinners, repairs and almost anything that was needed. At that time we shared our pastor with St. John Orphanage, we only had one Mass each weekend. As the area grew we then had two Masses on the weekend.  The ladies had afternoon card parties, playing bunko and pinochle and sometime when the weather was nice, and they had a large crowd they would have tables outside.

Chickens were raised at St. John’s Orphanage.  The men of the parish would kill the birds and the ladies would dress them and prepare them for freezing for the children at the orphanage.

Mrs. Florence Tiberend (Eileen Albrecht’s mother) took care of the entire altar needs.  She laundered the purificators, corporals, etc.

There for few years the ladies would have a “Breakfast with Santa” for the children of the parish.

We also had a quilting day here at the parish.  The ladies would spend the entire day quilting.  Those who could not quilt would prepare lunch for the quilters.

The men of the parish would cook and serve breakfast for the ladies on Mother’s Day and the ladies reciprocated for Father’s Day.  Maybe that was the beginning of the monthly breakfast buffet which we now have.

The ladies also served hot chocolate and coffee after the Christmas midnight Mass.

If a parishioner was ill or was hospitalized, the ladies would clean their house and bring food.

Joan Bye and Marian Bossler were very instrumental in the sodality functions during the years of the fifties, sixties, seventies, etc.  The funeral luncheons, which are provided by the ladies, started on September 14, 1971 (This funeral was for Mr. Arnold Perschbacher (Joan Bye’s dad).  That function is still being handled by the ladies of the parish.

As you can see many of our parishioner’s families go back several generations.  Today the ladies do the laundering of the altar linens, maintain the “Grab Bag Booth” at the chicken dinners, handle the funeral luncheons, provide fresh fruit monthly for the retired priests at the Hincke/Sense Home and have started, along with the seniors, to have an annual parish-wide rummage sale.  We are a very active group and our members are hard workers.  They never consider a task to be too difficult or too unmanageable.

All ladies of the parish are invited to come to our meetings which are held on the second Wednesday of the each month.
